Las exposiciones “…Y conmigo el río” de Mateo Zúñiga, y “RESULTA” de María José Chica en SKETCH, se conectan a través del territorio, sus memorias y encuentros. Ambos trabajan desde la pintura, pensándola como una ventana hacia un paisaje más íntimo. En el caso de Mateo se trata de la relación con un territorio físico, con su arquitectura, paisaje e historia; y en el de María José es un acercamiento al lugar que se crea cuando dos personas se encuentran.

 La obra de Mateo Zúñiga se construye a partir de las impresiones físicas y mentales suscitadas por el territorio de Mompox, mientras que María José Chica explora las posibilidades narrativas de la pintura para plasmar el tiempo y el espacio en donde ocurren sus encuentros. Ella busca imágenes que hablan de habitar diariamente un lugar doméstico, y cómo los objetos y su uso generan distintos significados. Dichos objetos, en su aparente asentamiento, dan cuenta de una vida, del paso del tiempo y de la apropiación de su espacio. En el caso de Mateo, el paso del tiempo también se manifiesta, en la luz, en el deterioro de los materiales que construyen la arquitectura momposina, en el flujo del río y sus reflejos. El tiempo que subyace en las pinturas del artista invita a la contemplación.

Estas dos exposiciones revelan la mirada de los artistas frente a la intimidad de su memoria, de su percepción de los encuentros con personas, objetos y espacios que les hablan. Cada uno desde su lenguaje construye un relato pictórico de lo que se puede entender como fragmentos, sensaciones y brillos de la luz sobre las cosas, sus obras traen al presente atisbos de días pasados.

The exhibitions “…Y conmigo el río” by Mateo Zúñiga, and “RESULTA” by María José Chica at SKETCH, are connected through the idea of territory, their memories and encounters. Both artists work through painting, thinking of it as a window to an intimate landscape. In Mateo’s case it is about the relationship with a physical territory, with its architecture, landscape and history; and in María José’s case it is an approach to the place that is created when two people meet. 

Mateo Zúñiga’s work is built from the physical and mental impressions aroused by the territory of Mompox, while María José Chica explores the narrative possibilities of painting to capture the time and space where her encounters take place. She looks for images that speak of daily inhabiting a domestic place, and how objects and their use generate different meanings. These objects, in their apparent stillness, contain traces of life, the passage of time and the appropriation of the space they are in. 

In Mateo’s case the passage of time is also manifested in the light, the deterioration of materials that build the architecture of Mompox, the flow of the river and its reflections. The time that underlies the artist’s paintings invites us to contemplate.

These two exhibitions reveal the artists’ perspectives from the intimacy of their memories, their perception of encounters with people, objects and spaces that speak to them. Each one of them creates a pictorial account of what can be understood as fragments, sensations and glimpses of light, bringing to the present the moments of days gone by.
