A través de materiales no convencionales, su trabajo gira en torno a la tensión entre la violencia, el deseo y lo divino. En la mitologización del cuerpo (homo)erótico, bien sea pictórico o escrito, Escobar explora los aspectos metafísicos de la sexualidad, lo sagrado y lo tabú, utilizando la imagen pornográfica, la simbología del arte religioso y el internet como punto de partida. 

“Como artista, me interesa particularmente la lucha espiritual de la desviación, el vaivén entre rebelarse contra y someterse a la providencia, entre la inocencia y la perversión. Como artista queer, me interesan los materiales queer, así que pinto con purpurina, fluidos corporales, acuarela, pintura textil y tierra sobre seda y papel reciclado. Como soy migrante, escribo en inglés y español.” 

David Felipe Escobar (b.1992) es pintor y escritor, con una licenciatura en diseño de moda de Parsons, al igual que en cine y pintura del programa interdisciplinario de creación de imagen y cine de Hunter College (Magna cum laude) en NY. Hace parte del colectivo Big Fat Baby junto a Marissa Delano.

Using unconventional materials, his work revolves around the tension between violence, desire, and the divine. In the mythologization of the (homo)erotic body, whether pictorial or written, Escobar explores the metaphysical aspects of sexuality, the sacred, and the taboo, using pornographic images, the symbolism of religious art, and the internet as a starting point.

“As an artist, I am particularly interested in the spiritual struggle of deviance, the ebb and flow between rebelling against and submitting to providence, between innocence and perversion. As a queer artist, I am interested in queer materials, so I paint with glitter, bodily fluids, watercolor, textile paint, and earth on silk and recycled paper. As a migrant, I write in English and Spanish.”

David Felipe Escobar (b. 1992) is a painter and writer, with a BA in Fashion Design from Parsons, as well as a BA in Film and Painting from the Interdisciplinary Image-Making and Filmmaking Program at Hunter College (magna cum laude) in New York City. He is part of the Big Fat Baby collective with Marissa Delano.
