Material Poroso

Exposición colectiva curada por Juan Betancurth

Me ha interesado abordar este proyecto curatorial pensando el cuerpo como materia y material en continuo cambio. Sus posibilidades de transformación se ven reflejadas en esta propuesta expositiva, en la que se le convoca como una sustancia que se hace poética, que se vuelve cosa, objeto de análisis y archivo; que se juega en formas espirituales, narcisas; que se opone a las ideas fijas del género; que se debate en las fluctuaciones del deseo; que se deja ver entre sus poros; que se pierde o se amalgama.

Partí entonces de mi propia práctica como artista para construir una relación en la que estamos cuerpo a cuerpo, artista a artista, objeto a objeto, entre colegas y prácticas que admiro y que, a veces, quisiera fueran las mías. Compartimos en nuestras prácticas el cuerpx como hilo conductor de manifestaciones y ausencias. Cuerpxs que, como material, se exhiben, se someten o aparecen a partir de su propia ausencia.

Las interconexiones entre las obras y la pretensión de un todo no han sido parte de la negociación. Estas pueden existir en la medida en que cada obra ejerza el poder que le fue otorgado al haber tomado forma.

Les invito igualmente a hacerse parte de esta composición y de sus propuestas. A abordar la exhibición con curiosidad, a permitirse el privilegio de indagar sobre quienes hacen parte de ella y a que este cubo blanco trascienda a dispositivo.

Material Poroso se presenta entonces como un cuerpo en colectivo, gracias a la confianza y al trabajo de Celso Castro, Cinthya Escorcia, David Medina, Vanessa Nieto, Ser del Cosmos, Rubén Barrios, Nadia Granados, Medulla y Luisebastián Sanabria.

I have approached this curatorial project by thinking of the body as matter and material in a state of continuous change. Its possibilities for transformation are reflected in this exhibition, where the body is invoked as a substance that becomes poetic; that turns into a thing, an object of analysis and an archive; that unfolds through spiritual and narcissistic forms; that resists fixed ideas of gender; that moves within the fluctuations of desire; that reveals itself through its pores; that becomes lost or amalgamated.

I began with my own artistic practice in order to construct a relationship in which we encounter one another body to body, artist to artist, object to object, among colleagues and practices that I admire and that, at times, I wish were my own. Across our practices, the body serves as a common thread connecting manifestations and absences. Bodies that, as material, are exhibited, subjected, or made present through their own absence.

The interconnections between the works, and the aspiration toward a unified whole, have not been part of the negotiation. Such connections may emerge insofar as each work exercises the power granted to it by having taken form.

I invite you to become part of this composition and its propositions: to approach the exhibition with curiosity, to allow yourselves the privilege of learning more about those who are part of it, and to enable this white cube to transcend its role and become a device.
