Luisebastián Sanabria (b.1991)

“De mis acciones tempranas se desprendió una corriente de trabajo que consistió en construir ficciones en las que los hombres nos comunicamos verbalmente. Sin embargo, me di cuenta después, los encuentros entre nosotros —y, en general, entre lxs humanxs— son frágiles, efímeros. Esa incertidumbre por la duración es el corazón del cuerpo de mi obra”.

En esta exposición individual, Sanabria (b. 1991) reúne por primera vez una serie de acciones que viene realizando con su padre desde el 2020. A través de la imagen en movimiento y de la palabra —pues Luisebastián no solo es artista visual, sino poeta y escritor— la muestra nos ofrece una mirada íntima de la relación de un padre con su hijo, y de un hijo con su padre, quienes comparten el mismo nombre. 

La muestra atraviesa diferentes interrogantes acerca de la paternidad, la herencia y los vínculos de sangre. En los últimos años, el padre y el hijo intentaron comunicarse, hacerle saber al otro lo que sentían. Se escribieron cuando no pudieron hablar. Hablaron y no se entendieron. Sentados sobre una mesa, guardaron silencio. Fue el cuerpo quien habló por ellos.

Tu nombre sobre mi nombre es una exposición de creación conjunta que no tiene otra forma más sino esta: la evidencia del encuentro —como dice el poema de Jericho Brown que ambos recitan— entre dos hombres que se aman.

 `From primal gestures sprang my artistic flow, and I embarked on the creation of fictional narratives among individuals of the male gender. Later, however, I realized in the broader spectrum of human connectivity that communication is fragile and ephemeral; this inherent uncertainty is the core of my work.´ 

“Tu nombre sobre mi nombre,” a solo exhibition by Luisebastian Sanabria (b. 1991), unveils a body of work developed in collaboration with his father since 2020. 

This compelling video exhibition offers a poignant and introspective examination of the intricate dynamics that exist within the bond between a father and a son, both of whom bear the weight of an identical name. Within this artistic portrayal, profound inquiries pertaining to notions of identity, paternity, the transference of legacy, and the profound significance of blood ties come to the forefront.

“Tu nombre sobre mi nombre,” is an exhibition of co-creation that has no other form but this: the evidence of the encounter - as the Jericho Brown poem they both recite - between two men in love.

Luisebastián Sanabria (b. 1991), holds a BA in Visual Arts from the Javeriana University and an advanced degree in photography from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He works as poet, writer and artist.
